Irina se unió a CSF en 2018 como Asistente Técnico. Tiene experiencia en investigación con áreas húmedas altoandinas en el Parque Nacional Sajama y con productores de café en el Municipio de Caconde, São Paulo, Brasil. También ha trabajado como consultora en el área de Medio Ambiente y Seguridad Ocupacional. Es Ingeniera Ambiental, graduada de la Escuela Militar de Ingeniería y tiene una Maestría en Conservación de la Biodiversidad y Desarrollo Sostenible del Instituto de Pesquisas Ecológicas IPE en São Paulo, Brasil.

Setia joined CSF in March 2018 as our Administrative and Finance Officer for Indonesia. Before joining CSF, Setia worked with Jaya-Obayashi General Contractor, GIZ-ASEAN German Regional Forest Programme, GIZ-Competition Policy and Law, CIFOR and Palladium-INOVASI Project. She has 14 years of experience in Administration and Finance and holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the School of Foreign Language of Pertiwi (STBA Pertiwi). In her spare time, Setia enjoys reading and watching movies.

Claudia ingreso a CSF en noviembre de 2011. Ella es Administradora Contadora y es responsable de la contabilidad, pagos, presupuestos y elaboración de reportes financieros. Ella tiene 15 años de experiencia en contabilidad y 3 años con el manejo de proyectos ambientales. Ella es Contadora titulada del Instituto INCOS y actualmente estudia inglés.

Annie Julissa Escobedo Grandez

Annie es bióloga peruana y realizó una maestría sobre Manejo y Conservación de Bosques Tropicales y Biodiversidad en CATIE-Costa Rica. Antes de unirse a Conservación Estratégica, Annie ha trabajado por más de diez años con comunidades amazónicas y en Áreas Naturales Protegidas en Perú, lo que le ha permitido contribuir en la elaboración e implementación de planes de manejo de peces y fauna silvestre, elaboración de documentos de gestión de ANP tales como planes de manejo, actividades de educación ambiental, análisis de conflictos de humanos-fauna silvestre y de paisaje. Annie, con el deseo de mejorar sus atributos profesionales, ha participado en cursos de economía para la conservación ofrecido por CSF y LACEEP. Ella se unió a CSF primero como consultora en el 2015 y ha contribuido con los estudios de compensación de biodiversidad en el Perú y otros proyectos.

Niki joined Conservation Strategy Fund in 2014 as a Training Associate, and is working closely with Kim at our Arcata office. Niki lived in Japan for three years during high school, traveled widely in Asia, and participated in Habitat for Humanity building projects in the Philippines. Exposure to extreme poverty sparked her interest in economics and sustainable development, which she pursued at UC Santa Cruz, where she earned her B.A. in Economics and M.S. in Applied Economics and Finance. She then spent three years as a naturalist, farmer, and educator at Hidden Villa Farm and Wilderness Preserve in Los Altos Hills, CA. In 2008, she followed her heart to Humboldt County where she worked for a variety of local non-profits before coming to CSF.

Sopian joined CSF in March 2018. Prior to joining CSF, he worked for PT. Hatfield Indonesia as environmental economics specialist, for EEPSEA as project leader of coastal resource management in Indonesia, and for Lembaga Cemerlang Indonesia as field coordinator. His core expertise includes extended cost and benefit analysis, impact evaluation, economic valuation, marketing and value chain analysis. Sopian holds a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics from University of the Philippines Los Baños and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Jambi University. In his spare time, Sopian enjoys cooking, traveling and watching movies.

Kathy Hunter joined CSF in 2011 as Staff Accountant. Kathy brings 25 years of experience in integrated accounting, human resources and financial reporting. Kathy is responsible for maintaining the accounts from CSF’s offices and global staff, assisting with administration of grants and contracts, and for preparation of managerial and funding reports.

Program Coordinator, São Paulo, Brazil

Camila joined CSF in 2015 to lead a project focused on the ecosystem services affected by a proposed dam in the Brazilian Amazon and how these losses would economically impact the communities in that region. She went on to lead different projects related to infrastructure, fisheries, forest conservation, and others. In late 2016, Camila became CSF-Brazil’s Interim Director, adding fundraising and leading collaborations with governments and international institutions to her role. After completing a fellowship from the German government working on river restoration with local communities, Camila returned to CSF-Brazil in 2019 as a Program Coordinator. Camila holds a Bachelor’s in Biology and a Master’s in Environmental Sciences, both from São Paulo University (USP). Camila’s approach to her work is transdisciplinary, connecting ecosystem services with social preferences, policy and decision making. She also has experience as a trainer and leading field trips.

Carla Mendizábal Vergara

Analyst, La Paz, Bolivia

Carla joined CSF in January 2017 as an intern in our Bolivia office, and now works as an analyst. She studied economics at the Universidad Católica in La Paz, Bolivia. Before joining CSF, Carla volunteered at a local orphanage and at Fundación TECHO as part of the International Cooperation team. She has a special interest in environmental conservation and the application of quantitative methods, as well as learning how to use different tools such as ARCGis. In addition to English and Spanish, Carla also speaks French. She hopes to continue to learn more languages and pursue a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics.

Desta joined CSF in 2016 as the program coordinator for our office in Indonesia. Prior to working with CSF, Desta worked with the University of Indonesia, Conservation International, the World Bank, and CIFOR. His main area of interest is how economics relates to marine and forest ecosystems and climate change. Desta has a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Indonesia, and a master’s degree in Environmental and Resource Economics from the Australian National University. In his spare time, he enjoys photography, reading, diving and cycling.

Lauren joined CSF in 2016 as the Program and Development Associate focusing on donor relations, fundraising coordination and project management. Her background is in integrated approaches to sustainable development primarily working on health, education and community development initiatives. Previously, she worked in East Africa as a Social Sector Specialist with Columbia Global Centers Nairobi and also served with the US Peace Corps in South Africa. Most recently she worked with a children's advocacy center and Orlando Health in Central Florida as a grants and development manager. She holds a Master's in Development Practice from Columbia University and a Bachelor's in International Studies and Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Carlos conoció CSF el año 2010, a través del Programa de Becas de investigación. Desde entonces, participó como analista en varios proyectos que se realizaron en toda la región de los Andes Amazónicos. El 2016 Carlos se (re)incorporó al staff de CSF, tras completar su Master en Economía Agrícola y de Recursos en la Universidad de Florida. Además de CSF, Carlos ha trabajado en proyectos de economía ambiental y desarrollo sostenible a lo largo de 8 años con múltiples organizaciones: USAID, Solimar International, la Fundación Friedrich Ebert y la Universidad de Florida entre otras. Cuando no está trabajando, él disfruta de tocar guitarra, leer, cocinar, hacer ejercicio, explorar espacios naturales y ejercitar la locura.

Thaís Vilela

Analista de Investigación Post-Doctoral, Berkeley, California

Thais es economista, con enfoque profesional en el medio ambiente y en el sector de la energía eléctrica. Se unió a CSF el 2015 después de recibir su PhD en Economía de la Universidad Pontifica Católica de Río de Janeiro. Su tesis doctoral investigó los efectos de la innovación, regulación, e incremento del uso de los recursos renovables en los mercados para automóviles. Antes de recibir su PhD, trabajó en Engenho y en el Grupo de Economía da Energía, ambos en Rio de Janeiro. En estos puestos, sus investigaciones incluyeron temas como los portafolios óptimos de generación de energía eléctrica, la integración de la producción de energía eléctrica en Sudamérica, y los cambios en el comportamiento resultantes de cambios en los precios de la gasolina y del etanol en Brasil.
