Introduction to Protected Areas Financing (Introducción al Financiamiento de Áreas Protegidas) is a free, fully online and self-paced course delivered in Spanish by the Numbers for Nature Institute at Conservation Strategy Fund (CSF), in collaboration with the Austral University Academy of Protected Areas (AUA) and the Austral Patagonia Program at the Austral University of Chile.

The course provides a foundational understanding of the main challenges and opportunities related to financing protected areas, with a focus on the persistent funding gaps that affect their effective management, particularly in biodiversity-rich regions such as Latin America. Participants will explore these financing gaps, as well as practical financial solutions and approaches to operationalizing them in real-world contexts.

Methodology

The course is delivered in a fully asynchronous format, allowing participants to progress at their own pace. It consists of four thematic modules and approximately eight hours of total content, including pre-recorded lectures and complementary materials hosted on the Numbers for Nature platform.
