Course Overview

This course was designed to strengthen the institutional capacity of representatives from the countries of the Eastern Tropical Pacific Marine Corridor (CMAR). It equipped participants with economic and financial tools to support strategic planning and improve the effective management of marine protected areas. By fostering a shared understanding of key concepts, the course promoted clearer communication and more informed decision-making in protected area management. Participants learned to apply practical tools for economic analysis and to design financing strategies that promote the long-term sustainability of their conservation initiatives. In addition, the course strengthened regional cooperation among CMAR countries by encouraging collaboration, knowledge exchange, and joint action on blue economy initiatives.

Methodology

The course combined live online sessions with experts, in-depth classes, readings, and practical exercises illustrating the application of blue economy concepts in real-world scenarios. Instructors, recognized specialists in their fields, shared insights and experiences from applying these tools globally.

Participants dedicated an average of six hours per week to the course, distributed among live sessions, in-depth classes, and practical activities. The flexible structure allowed them to balance professional responsibilities with the learning process.

All course materials, including recordings of live sessions, in-depth classes, readings, and exercises, remain available to participants for six months after the course’s completion.
