KEM Learning Day Series: Cultivating a Bioeconomy Through Collective Wisdom
Indonesia’s rich natural heritage—from its expansive peatlands to its dense tropical forests—is the cornerstone of a new economic era. The Koalisi Ekonomi Membumi (KEM), or Earth-Based Economy Coalition, is leading this transformation by building a sustainable investment ecosystem that values nature as an asset rather than a sacrifice. To turn this vision into reality, stakeholders must move beyond traditional extractive models toward a resilient, responsible bioeconomy.
The Project
The KEM Learning Day series was established to bridge the gap between visionary goals and practical action. In a rapidly shifting economic landscape, these gatherings serve as a vital engine for resilience, providing a dedicated space for members to align their strategies, deepen technical connections, and adapt to emerging opportunities together.
- Dates: November 2025 – February 2026
- Location: Future City Hub, Jakarta
- Ecosystems: Forests, Wetlands (Peatlands)
- Themes: Economic Tools, Bioeconomy, Sustainable Value Chains, Conservation Finance, Indigenous Economies
Our Role: Empowering Through Collaboration
As a core member of the coalition’s advocacy team, CSF Indonesia (YSKI) serves as a primary knowledge partner and facilitator. We co-designed and implemented a three-part learning series to equip the coalition with the strategic tools necessary to influence Indonesia’s economic development circles.
Our focus is on creating an inclusive environment where 52 participants from diverse sectors—including government agencies like BAPPEDA and private sector leaders like KADIN—can exchange insights and master tools such as the Value Chain Collaboration Canvas (VC3). By translating complex economic principles into accessible, collaborative frameworks, we are helping KEM position itself for maximum policy impact.
Impact and Outcomes
The Learning Day sessions have successfully:
- Strengthened the Coalition’s Core: Empowered 52 leaders from national and sub-national jurisdictions to work collectively.
- Deepened Technical Capacity: Provided hands-on workshops on bioeconomy frameworks and sustainable value chain development.
- Mapped Policy Pathways: Identified shared principles and identified barriers to help KEM influence national climate and development goals.
- Built Strategic Networks: Enhanced the visibility of YSKI as a collaborative partner capable of bridging the gap between economic theory and community-led conservation
Looking Forward
Ultimately, this initiative is about more than just training; it is about building an Indonesian economy that works with nature. By fostering trust and shared responsibility, we have planted the seeds for deeper collaboration across the coalition. We envision a future where KEM members lead the charge in co-developing proposals and championing sustainable business models that protect Indonesia’s biodiversity while securing long-term prosperity for its people.
