Mitigation Hierarchy in the Bolivian Transport Sector

Mitigation Hierarchy in the Bolivian Transport Sector

Conservation Strategy Fund (CSF) and Wildlife Conservation Society Bolivia (WCS) are currently working to provide technical guidance on the development of a mitigation hierarchy in the Bolivian transportation sector (Jerarquía de Mitigación - JdM). The ultimate goal of the project is to identify and evaluate the potential impacts of new road projects throughout the country, and promote only those road projects where the negative environmental impacts can be minimized or offset.

This guide will include the key guidelines and methodological procedures for the correct application of JdM in the road transport sector, and include input from international experts. The guide will then be reviewed and implemented by the Bolivian Highway Administrator (Administradora Boliviana de Carreteras, ABC). Our hope is that the Technical Guide will establish the necessary conditions to support the development of a formal law or Supreme Decree that establishes the regulatory framework for the implementation of the JdM concept in road transport in Bolivia.
