Mitigation Hierarchy in the Bolivian Transport Sector
Conservation Strategy Fund (CSF) and Wildlife Conservation Society Bolivia (WCS) are currently working to provide technical guidance on the development of a mitigation hierarchy in the Bolivian transportation sector. The ultimate goal of the project is to identify and evaluate the potential impacts of new road projects throughout the country, and promote only those road projects where the negative environmental impacts can be minimized or offset. In addition, by prioritizing and adopting more environmentally-sounds policies, the Bolivian transport sector will be able to reduce national greenhouse gas emissions and meet the goals of the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26).
As a part of this project, CSF and WCS have completed an interim report: "Economic Impact of Mitigation Measures to Achieve Nationally Determined Contributions in Bolivia." The report includes a compilation of measures that have been collected from national and regional plans across the energy, transport, agriculture, industry, waste, and forestry sectors. The team also reviewed international mitigation policies and identified the most practical policies for the Bolivian transport sector to implement at the national level.
