The Numbers for Nature Institute at Conservation Strategy Fund (CSF), with support from UK PACT (Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions), has developed the virtual, self-paced course “EX-ACT: Measuring Emissions in the Agricultural Sector in Bolivia”, aimed at strengthening technical capacities for climate action within key public institutions in the country.

The course focuses on the use of the EX-ACT (Environmental eXternalities ACcounting Tool), developed by FAO, to estimate carbon balances and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in agriculture, forestry, and other land uses. Through a combination of conceptual content, applied examples, and interactive exercises, participants learn how to estimate emissions, compare mitigation scenarios, and use results to support evidence-based decision-making aligned with national climate goals, including Bolivia’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

The program also integrates a Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) approach, encouraging participants to consider diverse social contexts in the design and implementation of climate actions, and to promote more inclusive and equitable outcomes.

Methodology

The course is delivered in a fully online, self-paced format, allowing participants to progress at their own pace over a two-month period. It consists of three chapters and approximately 10 hours of total content, combining thematic lessons, practical exercises, and reflection spaces designed to connect the material with participants’ professional experience.

Participants will gain
Understand the role of emissions measurement in climate policy and decision-making
Learn how to use the EX-ACT tool to estimate carbon balances and GHG emissions
Analyze and compare mitigation scenarios in the agricultural and forestry sectors
Apply results to the design, evaluation, and monitoring of climate policies and projects
Incorporate gender, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI) considerations into climate action planning
Who the course is for
This course is designed for public sector professionals in Bolivia working in institutions related to climate policy, agriculture, forestry, and land use management. It is particularly relevant for those involved in the design, evaluation, and implementation of public policies and projects linked to climate change mitigation and sustainable development.
