I recently returned from my first Conference of the Parties (COP) from the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) that took place in Montreal, Canada. I was inspired by the events I attended, the positivity and hope surrounding our meetings and objectives, and by the final agreement on the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). I can only imagine what it must have taken to get 190+ countries to agree on the 23 targets in those final few hours of the conference.
On December 8, 2022, our Sintang Groundwork Analysis consortium gathered to share their findings from their work on green budget tagging, a practice of identifying elements within the regency’s budget that are beneficial to the advancement of sustainable or “green” efforts, supporting the vision of the Green Sintang Initiatives.

Exploramos la posibiladad de diseñar un mecanismo de finaciamiento para áreas protegidas a partir de la contribución de la ciudadanía chilena. Los resultados mostaron que el 77% de los hogares estarían dispuestos a pagar 500 pesos chilenos mensuales para mejorar la gestión de las áreas protegidas. Invertir en áreas protegidas es mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas que habitan las comunidades portal y de toda la población chilena.
¡Las áreas protegidas nacionales en Chile reducen la pobreza! Analizamos el efecto de las áreas protegidas sobre la pobreza de la población. Los resultados mostraron que el establecimiento de un área protegida que cubra, al menos, el 17% de una comuna contribuiría con una reducción significativa en el índice de pobreza de esta, especialmente en áreas que se ubican en la región patagónica. This international forum for the well-being of the amazon was organized by the Observatory for Sustainable Road Infrastructure in the Amazonian Andes, of which Conservation Strategy Fund (CSF), GRADE, and the Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS Peru).
