Global Landscape Restoration Reference Tool

In partnership with Conservation International, CSF-Brazil is developing a restoration reference tool, to provide key information on the costs and benefits of successful ecosystem restoration projects in Cambodia, Indonesia, and Peru.

Cost-Benefit Analysis for the proposed Río Nieva Protected Area, Peru

CSF is conducting a cost-benefit analysis (CBA) for the creation of a protected area in northwestern Peru, Río Nieva. This study will use the most rigorous possible application of the benefit transfer method, in which results from existing work will be extrapolated to this specific site.

Comparative Analysis of Conservation Agreement Programs in the Amazon

CSF is working on a research and capacity building project for the World Bank to increase effectiveness of government-run conservation agreement and payment for ecosystem services (PES) programs in the Amazon Sustainable Landscapes (ASL) Program region.

Despite the potential for conservation agreements and PES mechanisms to make conservation attractive to landowners, program characteristics that efficiently deliver avoided deforestation and related goals are still not consistently included in program design.

Smart Road Development in the Amazon

CSF has been working with the Moore Foundation, IPAM, and FCDS to identify the relative riskiness of planned roads in the Amazon basin in terms of economic, social and environmental costs. Our goal is to promote better infrastructure decision-making in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru by contributing reliable data to the national road planning process.

Cost-Benefit Analysis for the proposed Nazca Ridge Marine Protected Area, Peru

In partnership with Oceana, CSF conducted a cost-benefit analysis (CBA) for the creation of the proposed Nazca Ridge Marine Protected Area (NRMPA) located off the coast of central Peru. The CBA estimated the benefits from the creation of the proposed MPA and compared these with costs associated with managing and others resulting from the establishment of the MPA. Roughly 100 kilometers offshore, NRMPA has the potential to be an important icon for marine conservation in Peru and globally while also protecting a source of marine wildlife and resources from future overfishing and pollution threats.
